The Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana

The Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana is an educational and research institution of an all India character established and run by the minority Christian community. Its primary aim is to educate and train Christian men and women as health professionals, in the spirit of Jesus Christ for the healing ministry of the Church in India.

Through education, patient care and compassionate service, CMC has made a lasting contribution to the health of communities across India, with special concern for rural, underserved and unreached areas.

About us

A long history of healing, training and service

Christian Medical College and Hospital Ludhiana grew out of pioneering medical mission work begun in 1881 and was formally established in 1894 by Dr Edith Brown. Friends of Ludhiana Australia supports this continuing ministry by helping CMC care for patients, train health professionals and serve communities across North India.

What began as a school of medicine for women has grown into a broad institution including the hospital, dental college, nursing college, physiotherapy college and allied health sciences, while keeping its original commitment to compassionate care and Christian service.

Early mission work

Medical mission work in Ludhiana began with the Greenfield sisters and their colleagues.

1894

College founded

Dr Edith Brown opened the North India School of Medicine for Christian Women.

Continuing the ministry
